about

Here's the first collection of mainly lo-fi and unmixed Urthona live recordings. These were some of the earliest Urthona shows, where the MKI line-up was Neil on guitar and Mark on electronics. Show details are as follows:
1. Bath Komedia 2011. We think this was our second gig (a previous gig in Windsor was recorded but we lost the tape). This is a stereo soundboard recording, but the sound dude forgot to record the first 8 minutes, so it's missing the start. The on-stage sound was really immense at this gig. For this show, and the others on Vol I, we played everything through a vintage and humungously loud Sound City 200 watt bass cabinet of Julian's. We'd had to borrow a tiny hatchback car to get to this gig, and afterwards we had a laugh with some of Julian's fans trying to fit the enormo Sound City cabinet into the back of the Mr Bean sized car. We've still got the cabinet; maybe we should bring it back into use some day... (The track listing is included in the text panel for this and the other individual shows).
2. Next night in Bournemouth, a student union venue at the seaside. We had fish and chips on the beach beforehand. Spot the heckle of "Get off, get Julian on!", which was fair enough if you'd come along expecting to hear Julian do World Shut Your Mouth. Recorded on a Roland Edirol R-09 field recorder, atop the trusty Sound City cabinet.
3. This is an edited compilation of the two previous shows making one complete gig, which we made 5 numbered CDs of and sent out to prospective venues in early 2012.
4. Another Julian support slot, this time at the Bristol Fleece. One of the handful of times we played River Severn Bore live. We seemed to know loads of people at this show, and the night had quite a party vibe with mucho ales before and afterwards. It's a soundboard recording, but a very guitar-heavy rockin' mix. Defo one of the most enjoyable Urthona gigs from this period.
